Puacuaro is just 35-40 minutes from Pátzcuaro.   Driving clockwise around the Lake to Eronguricuaro, go
past Eronga's main plaza, make a right at the T in the road, and then bear left to continue on the road around the
Lake.   The entrance to Puacuaro is on your right, about 10 minutes past Eronga.   Having learned the trade from
artisans in Tzintzuntzan, who probably learned it from people in Ihuatzio, Puacuaro has revitalized tule and
chuspata (reeds from the lake, round and flat respectively) weaving in the area.   Almost 50% of Puacuaro's
population work in reed weaving and almost all of them speak Purepecha as their first and dominant language.

We recommend getting in touch with Eva and Enrique Ascencio who have invented many new designs and
stitches and serve as the leaders of the informal women's cooperative in town.  Eva is also a curandera
(traditional healer) who works with traditional and western medicine professionals.  We recommend setting up an
appointment by phone: 434-345-4069.  To reach their home, turn right down the first entrance into Puacuaro and
take the road until it dead ends.  Then make a left and their street is your first right.  Their house is the last house
on the left before the wooden gate.  They have a mushroom drawing on their front step.
